Are you interested in gaining LEADERSHIP experience?
If you are interested in gaining valuable leadership experience, consider becoming an AFFP Committee Member for the 2007-2008 school year! The Association of Future Female Physicians (AFFP) is an organization dedicated to empowering, educating and supporting pre-med women. This is a great opportunity for those interested in supporting their community and other pre-medical women.
Some of the positions available for next year are:
- Membership Chair- Responds to all emails regarding membership, sends out membership applications, tracks member information and attendance, develops and implements projects to attract and retain members; sets up recruiting activities at freshman orientations, special University of Utah events, and in the Student Union; responsible for increasing member participation at AFFP activities.
- Community Service Chair – Creates and implements ongoing volunteer opportunities and special community service projects that are in line with AFFP values; proactively promotes events; increase member participation; finds and informs members of additional volunteer opportunities
- Activity Coordinators – (several positions available) - Works with Community Services Chair to develop activities; Helps coordinate service and volunteer projects; promote events; increase member participation; organizes venues and set-up; researches and informs members about other volunteer activities throughout the Salt Lake Valley
- Publicity Chair - Writes press releases and works with media to increase exposure to organization and events; writes and edits web pages; creates fliers and ensure adequate distribution of event fliers or membership information fliers throughout campus; works with Membership Chair to increase membership and member participation
- Education Chair - Develops panel discussion, lecture series, brown bag luncheons and other activities to educate members about health related issues related to careers in medicine, ethics, biopsychosocial, women’s issues, etc. in addition to training members about the application process, MCAT testing, research opportunities, writing and interview workshops, etc; coordinate tutoring opportunities for pre-med classes
- Event Coordinators – (several positions available) - Work with Education Chair to develop panel discussions, lectures, and other activities related to member education; researches and stays current on University of Utah medical lecture series, continuing educational opportunities, etc. Reserves rooms and audiovisual equipment for lectures, orders food and beverages, distributes fliers and event posters, etc.
- Diversity Chair - Create social support network for women of diversity; work with Education Chair to educate members about issues related to sexuality, gender and religious and racial issues; work with Membership Chair to increase membership and retention of diverse populations; works with Social Coorindator to develop multicultural activities
- Social Coordinator - Creates support networks between members; develops social opportunities between members, physicians and medical students; oversees mentoring program; works with other chair positions to promote participation in AFFP events; supports Community Service and Education Chairs.
- Technology Chair - Manages website; ensures timely and accurate updates; censors blog pages for content; keeps website technologically current; must have some web and design experience.
If you are interested in a particular position, AFFP would like to see a brief (1 page) proposal of how you feel you will contribute to AFFP, what ideas you have for your position and the group as a whole. Also, be sure to include your Name, Email Address, Cell Phone or Home Phone, Year (i.e. Freshman… Senior), Major, Overall GPA, and how much time you are able to commit each week to AFFP.
