3 Scholarships careers in childrens media PDF Print E-mail

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation, in association with Ernst & Young LLP, is offering three (3) scholarships in honor of Fred Rogers, the creator and long-time host of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.

The scholarships are intended to support and encourage aspiring undergraduate and graduate students to pursue careers in children’s media and further the values and principles of Fred Rogers’ work.

Who may apply and how does one apply?

The scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students (Masters or Ph.D.) of accredited colleges or universities. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment—through coursework or experience—to any combination of at least two of the following fields:

• early childhood education
• child development/child psychology
• film/television production
• music
• animation

Applicant must have the ultimate goal of working in children’s media.

Particular attention will be given to applicants from inner city or rural communities.

Clinical Research Methods & Practice

Students will participate in:
3 or 5 credit hour, upper division course for juniors, seniors, and graduate level students (3
credits for 6 clinical hours/week; 5 credit hours for 12 clinical hours/week)
HANDS ON clinical rotation shifts at Primary Children’s Medical Center (6 or 12 hours/week)
Identify and recruit eligible study patients in the ED, PICU, and outpatient clinics
University HIPAA certification
Human Subject Participation certification (CITI)
Interpreting research publications
Didactic learning sessions once a week-Tuesdays 1-2:00 pm (HSEB 2958)

Boren Awards Campus Information Session

 

This Wednesday, October 21 at 11 am in the Student Union Den, a representative from the Institute of International Education will be speaking with interested students about the David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships.

Boren Awards provide a unique funding opportunity for U.S. students to study world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East).

The Boren Scholarship provides opportunities for undergraduate students to study in countries that are generally underrepresented in study abroad.  Boren Scholars are awarded up to $20,000 for an academic year.

The Boren Fellowship allows graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate studies.  Boren Fellows can be awarded up to $30,000.

Tutoring Center at Heritage Center PDF Print E-mail

Heritage Tutoring Center Open for Business

The ASUU Tutoring Center and the Office of Housing and Residential Education are pleased to announce the reopening of the Heritage Drop-In Tutoring Center! 

The center is located in Seminar Room #1 of the Peterson Heritage Center and provides free, drop-in tutoring services Sunday-Thursday evenings, 7-10 p.m.  Services begin Monday, October 5, 2009.   All tutors have been screened by the ASUU Tutoring Center and have received training in accordance with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) guidelines.  Tutoring is offered in math, chemistry and physics, with additional courses to be offered in the near future.  

In celebration of the opening, the Housing and Residential Education will be holding an Open House on Tuesday, October 6 in the main lobby of the Peterson Heritage Center.  Festivities will begin at 7:00 p.m. with refreshments and information on tutoring services.  All U of U faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.  For additional information call 581-5153 or visit the ASUU Tutoring Center in Rm. 330 SSB.
