    This essay should be about youWho are you?  Why did you decide on a profession you chose? What have you done which demonstrate your motivation?  What have you learned from these experiences?  What future goals do you hope to accomplish? Be specific, not vague--don’t make general statements without support or illustration (e.g., “my volunteer experience was rewarding,” “I have strong communication skills.” – with no other detail)  It should not be merely a list of endeavors, but an interesting narrative which highlights your achievements and your positive personal qualities with respect to your career decision. 

     

    Pay attention to composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.During the drafting process you should have a couple of others (professor, dentist, dental student, parent, advisor, Writing Center tutor, etc.) read your essay and offer feedback. 

     

    Tell something about yourself that makes you interesting; achievements, background, or hobbies.  Get the reader’s attention!  Celebrate who you are!
